gospel
a word of Anglo-Saxon origin, and meaning “God’s spell”, i.e., word of God, or rather, according to others, “good spell”, i.e., good news. It is the rendering of the Greek evangelion, i.e., “good message.”
-Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary
Just thought you should know. I used to contend that gospel and evangelion (euaggelion is a more accurate transliteration, but evangelion is a more accurate pronounciation) were two different words. In fact, I was wrong.
Either way: God’s story, or good story, it is definitely good news. And a rather compelling epic story. And please don’t limit the gospel to Romans 10:9-10, or John 3:16 (though John 3:16 is the best summary of the whole bible in… the… bible…). You would be missing out on a huge romance epic.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. The shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and saved them, and watered their flock. When they came home to their father Reuel, he said, “How is it that you have come home so soon today?” They said, “An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds and even drew water for us and watered the flock.” He said to his daughters, “Then where is he? Why have you left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”
~From the Exodus, as recorded by Moses
It’s good to know that sometimes women can be as thoughtless as men.
That or they were just really shy. :)

Man there’s a lot of stuff that has caught my eye today. I’ll just post links here a la Dan Benson, and Pat Blair
Matt Groening on why you need a Mac circa 1989.
Bye bye IE. Though it will be a few years before we see it go the way of Netscape 4.x, IE is on it’s way out. Prediction, two more years. Say hello to Firefox, the better browser.
Braveheart, Legends of the Fall, role models for Christian men. Thanks to John Eldredge. (hat tip Ochuk, who has an amazing hillarious article on the topic. (Not that its amazing that its hillarious… but.. ya, you know.))
Study suggests hippos may be related to whales – not horses, or pigs as previously thought. slaps forhead what have we been thinking!
In other stupid news, It is possible to get petrified wood in days, not just millions of years! – Evolutionists scramble to explain away. (well, they haven’t yet, but they will as soon as they put 2 and 2 together and stop getting 14,023.)
Prediction: Belushi is the first to comment, and will be comment #900. That or Blair, because he is now jobless.

Lord,
I have forgotten the words you have spoken to me.
I doubt you and follow a path that seems right to me, but when viewed from your perspective, leads straight to death.
In my weakness, I fall into worshiping things of man at the alter of selfishness and materialism.
I do things and go places that take my heart away from yours, little by little.
I am so easily satisfied by things that are a shadow of what you have for me,
and I repent.
Forgive me for my unbelief, pardon my transgressions,
Lord thank you that you do.
Renew the fire that you lit in me a few short years ago.
I bow my heart before you in the presence of your goodness and grace.
Lord help me to love you again, and devote myself freshly to you.
Lord have mercy on us.
Christ have mercy on us.
Lord thank you for your mercy.
Thank you for your grace.
Thank you for your love.
Father, it is because of your son that we have any right to claim this grace, this forgiveness, for the first time, or the thousandth, and that is why we say.
“In Christ’s name we pray.”
Amen.
