This needs some work, but it’s straight from my heart/mind onto the page… it’s raw and was written directly after tonight’s gig at the dorms and reflecting on the first week and a half of the school year. It’s just kinda how I feel right now. So… ya.
I guess I’m just connecting with the disciples right now… how they must have felt as Jesus lead them around Gallilee doing all sorts of crazy stuff..
Hope you enjoy it.
You told us to get up and come, and follow as you go
you told about the kingdom, and other things we didn’t know
We saw you heal we saw you glow, you are the son of God
We had it made, or so we thought, but then it got real odd
I’m just a simple fisherman
And he just keeps the books
now with all these prostitutes and thieves
have you thought of the way that looks?
Things were going fairly well on a sunny, breezy day
everyone gathered round to listen. you even sent the rain away
Then afternoon turned to evening and we could feel the shifting mood
We looked to you, we always do. you said to give them food…
But I’m just a simple fisherman
And he just helps people pay their dues
There’s five thousand starving people
what on earth are we supposed to use?
This was supposed to be easy supposed to be fun, you had come to win
you were here to save the world, and bring the kingdom in
you even rose from the grave, that was the best trick yet
but then you left us here alone, and told us not to forget
But I’m just a simple fisher-dude
And he just works for the man
Theres a hundred screaming lepers
And I can’t heal them, and you can
I’m just a simple fisherman
And he just pays his dues
There’s so much work left to be done
Help us follow through
I’m just a simple fisherman
And we don’t have a clue
There’s so much work left to be done
help us follow through….
