My Toenail Fell Off!!

Seriously, it did.  It’s not as gross as one might think it was, but it is definitely weird.  I have no idea why it did.  No injuries, diseases, etc…

I did a google search to see if I could figure out why it happened, or if it is a big problem that I should worry about.  MyDR.com has some interesting things to say about the matter.  Doesn’t seem like it’s a big deal.  But I’m still going to call first nurse in the morning.

Just thought I’d share.

Anyone want to see pictures?? :)

Jus curious because this happened to my sister a few days ago. There was no sign of infection, no bleeding nor any pain. My question is wouldn't there be some sort of discoloration if it were caused by some fungus? Would there not have been some sign or something that would have gotten her attention?

Hi there, omg! This was started on 2006! Yet there are very few answers. I’m a big fan of Larry Fitzgerald -like before he got BIG – and I remember he said it was not unusual for him to go a season without losing toe nails. Just right now I flicked my feet together watching the Laker game at home and noticed my nail feel loose. As I brought it to me to examine it, I saw the nail hanging by a thread. Doesn’t hurt it just feels weird and I have no idea what to do. I remember two weeks ago I had some pain in my nail but I just rushed to the store and bought some lotrimin AF and placed it on my foot religiously every day and the pain was gone along with the area being clean. But yeah, it’s the same area where I developed my very first blisters which I treated in with primitive care. I haven’t had a blister on a while though but it could have been caused by me clumsily sticking a needle in a bad part of the foot. Note: I have to wear steel toe timberlands but they aren’t specifically designed for my unique feet so I have to wear them 1 size too big. Ok, I’m done with my rant. I think I’m going to tear it off but I’ll wait to see what the feedback is from the yahoo answers community. Oh yeah, lol at “maybe we should start a support group”. My friend who is a cancer survivor would have ko’d me for that.

So happy I found this sight. I was trimming my toenails and when I got to my pinky nail it lifted right off! no pain, no bruising, just flaked off. I thought maybe I hit it and didnt realize or see bruising because of my dark nail polish. But when I went to the other foot, the same thing happened with that pinky toenail! they are booth gone now! So wierded out. I have bad circulation and am often dehydrated – these seem to be common in this blog. Feel better since I read this but wtf? has anyone seen a dr about it??

My pinky toe nail was loose I released from where the bed of the nail begins and fromthe part we cut off. It’s going to fall off obviously, so I cut all the loose parts around it off, its the area in the middle still attatched to the toe, what should I do about that?? Im a little worried =/ and no I didn’t bump my foot or anything that I remember of and I do drink A LOT of water. It hurts obviously when I try to lift up the remaining part. Helppp

all i can find is that it is a bacterial infection like a fungus or something. It has happened to me 3or 4 times didnt look gross didn't hurt, nothing. not sure if it is bacterial or what .

Both my big toenails have fallen off in the space of a few days, I’ve been to the doctor twice for this now and both times I was diagnosed incorrectly. It started off a few months ago when I had pain in my nails after a night out and I guessed it was because of my heels so I let it pass, then I noticed they were discoloured like they were bruised so I went to the doctor and she said it was chilblains and gave me some information on it after a few more weeks I noticed I could lift my nails quite far off the nail bed so I went back to the doctor and she then said there was no way I had chilblains and that it was a fungal infection and prescribed me curanail I still wasn’t convinced and now my nails are totally gone, I now think someone must of stood on my toes when I was out and that they had “died” and new ones are pushing through.

Half my toe nail fell off last night, it is still partially attatched, and like loads of people, there wasn't any pain – i was just trying to trim my nail and it just lifted. I havn't pulled it off, but I don't know if I should. I have been searching the internet, and I don't think it is a fungal infection, and I don't remember having an injury. I don't understand why this happened!?
