The First Rule of Flying
I watched Serenity a few weeks back; GREAT movie. I highly recommend it, unless you have a problem with some brief zombie horde action. There are some pretty gruesome scenes. No gore, just the idea (and sounds…). However, the rest of the movie: golden.
The movie ended with the following monologue (roughly…). Wonderul stuff.
You know the first rule of flying, don’t you?
Love.
You can learn all the math in the ‘verse, but you take a boat in the air, and don’t have love, and she’ll shake you just as sure as the turnin of the worlds.
Love keeps her in the air when she autta fall down. Tell ya’ she’s hurtin’ before she keens. Love makes her a home…

My favorite movie. Have you seen the Firefly DVD set that the movie’s based off of? And what zombies?
Havne’t seen the Firefly series yet. Gotta get that. The Reavers in the movie reminded me of Dawn of the Dead or something like that.. (only much faster moving….)
Risking instant dequalification from the human race, that quote makes little to no sense. I’m as big a fan of love as the next guy, but it’s not the ‘first rule of flying’ by any means. It’s a fun quote (reads like 1Cor 13), and surely applicable to other pursuits, but a serious engineering venture like flight? Get real.
Ben, shouldn’t a LAS student like you would recognize a metaphor?
i love this movie. i thought they had a lot of good stuff to say about leadership and the necessity of submission to leaders. they showed the results of a vocal unsupportive follower on the other followers and how a little yeast can raise the whole dough. convicting stuff, i thought. i need to buy the firefly series too…
Of course you already know what I’m gonna say before I say it…don’t you? THIS MOVIE ROCKS.
It’s got quite a story behind how it made it to the big screen considering all it was up against. It’s a good read.
Anyone else…Capt Reynolds = Han Solo?
I like how the Capt. finally comes to a point where he realizes he is willing to die to get the truth out to the world…
