Mad Hot Ballroom

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Along the same line as my last post about The Five Browns, (sorry, the teacher side of me got thinking about more of the media that I have really enjoyed lately) has anyone else out there seen Mad Hot Ballroom? Autumn, who is always in the know about the newest indie/documentary films, told me […]

The First Rule of Flying

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

I watched Serenity a few weeks back; GREAT movie. I highly recommend it, unless you have a problem with some brief zombie horde action. There are some pretty gruesome scenes. No gore, just the idea (and sounds…). However, the rest of the movie: golden.

The movie ended with the following monologue (roughly…). Wonderul stuff.

[…]

9 Minute Narnia Preview!!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

9 minute preview of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Amazing.

(If you have trouble getting to it directly, this is where I found it: narniafans.com)

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a Great Movie!

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Nancy and I went to the library last night and picked up a few DVDs. I decided that over the holiday I could splurge a little and watch a few movies I’ve been meaning to see, and since they were free, what the heck? The first on my list? Sky Captain and […]

New U2 DVD!

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Well, my birthday is just around the corner. What does that mean?

NEW U2 DVD RELEASE!!

U2 Vertigo: Live from Chicago

Movies 2

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

Sorry, I missed this one in my last run-down, and I shouldn’t have:

Serenity - What Star Wars COULD have been. Looks AMAZING. (also: trailer 2)

New movies

Thursday, August 18th, 2005

It looks like there are a bunch of good new movies coming out. Here’s a rundown of some ones I think look interesting, or at least noteworthy:

Doom - I think us gamer geeks have waited long enough for this one. Unfortunately it will probably suck.

Lord of War - Why does Nick Cage always […]

Review: Batman Begins

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Not so much a review, as an excited rave… but:

In short, it was better than Star Wars. That’s right, better than Star Wars.

I’m a humongous Batman fanatic. The first (Michael Keaton/Jack Nicholsen/Tim Burton) Batman movie is still in my top 10 favorite movies of all time, (though this one may just have replaced […]

Emerging Hope: Jimmy Long

Wednesday, June 1st, 2005

Several Rock leaders have been reading Emerging Hope by Jimmy Long. It is a book about the “Emerging Culture” (Generation X and the Millennial Generation (Gen Y)). The book describes the characteristics of these two postmodern generations, and the cultural events that contributed to their advent. The book also proposes that not […]

The Ragamuffin Gospel: Evangelism

Sunday, March 20th, 2005

I’ve picked The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning back up. I found this gem tonight.

The ministry of evangelism is an extraordinary opportunity of showing gratitude to Jesus by passing on His gospel of grace to others. However, the ‘conversion by concussion’ method with one sledgehammer blow of the Bible after another betrays a […]

Batman Begins

Squeals with excitement…

This may have to be worked into a new header for this Web site…

Influences

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

I’ve been thinking lately about fleshing out my “recommendations” section, which pretty much has the few books I could think of off the top of my head.

So I’ve decided to make a list of books, movies, songs, and CDs which have influenced the man I am today. :) I’d be interested in yours as […]

True Discipleship: Where is Your Treasure?

Monday, November 29th, 2004

It seems clear from the Word of God that believers should be satisfied with food, clothing and housing; that they should be industrious in providing these current needs for their families; and that everything in excess should go into the work of God. They should not try to provide for their own future security, […]

Christian “art”

Monday, November 15th, 2004

First of all, we’ve got to learn as a church to support artists who are respectfully engaging culture with good art. I think one of the reasons the church in this country is irrelevant in a lot of circles is because our art is bad—and it’s always been a primary way of how the church […]

Not Even a Hint 4 (final)

Monday, July 5th, 2004

I’ve done a few entries on Not Even a Hint by Joshua Harris before, and sorry I haven’t done more, but I finished the book yesterday and I wanted to post a (rather long) excerpt from the last chapter. Sorry this entry is a bit long, but it is definitely worth the time to […]

Tilted Halos

Sunday, May 30th, 2004

Well, I picked up reading The Ragamuffin Gospel again. I stalled out on it in early spring, but looks like I’ll be able to get into it over the summer.

In this recent section of the book, Manning has been focusing on trust, and “spiritual poverty” (blessed are the poor in spirit). I thought […]

Favorite Movies

Thursday, April 1st, 2004

Tim Hibbing got me thinking about my top 10 favorite movies of all time. I’m not quite sure what they would be, so I thought that for my own edification, and yours, today I am going to attempt to list them. Here goes:

The Fellowship of the Ring: One of the greatest stories ever […]

Wonderland

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

“There is no use in trying,” said Alice; “One can’t believe impossible things.”

“I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carrol

Wonderful.

The Passion of The Christ - my thoughts…

Thursday, February 26th, 2004

Here are a few of my thoughts, such as they are right now. I may have more later.

Before I was really scared to see this movie, like I was waiting to see my best friend on trial or something. The beginning commercials and trailers were sort of a blur for me, all I remember […]

Most Jews Not Against the Passion!

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

Tim sent me this incredible article written by a rabbi about why Jews SHOULD not be against the passion and indeed that most aren’t.

It is worth your time for a thorough read. Some highlights:

Those Jewish organizations that have squandered both time and money futilely protesting Passion, ostensibly in order to prevent pogroms […]
