John Mayer at Macworld 2007
Tuesday, February 6th, 2007John Mayer gave an excellent performance at MacWorld 2007. Amazing voice, amazing guitar tone, amazing playing. It’s inspiring.
C.S. Lewis On Excellence
Sunday, January 28th, 2007Paul showed me this quote the other day. I think it captures the heart of why I am passionate about excellence in our ministry (our music, our Web site, our promotions, our speaking, everything…).
“‘Great works’ (of art) and ‘good works’ (of charity) had better also be good work. Let choirs sing […]
Recent Changes in The Rock Music Ministry
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007I have no picture to go with this post!! Why aren’t people taking photos at The Rock anymore??
You probably already have noticed some changes going on with the lineup of bands at The Rock on Friday night, and I wanted to take a bit and explain what’s going on.
The Lone Strangers (or one form of […]
Current Reading and Listening
Thursday, January 18th, 2007You can see in my footer that I’ve updated Nancy and my current reading and listening. You can see that Nancy is a bit more spiritual and classic than I, and I a bit more “pomo” and hip than her. (hehe…)

Face To Face: Shoot The Moon
Saturday, January 6th, 2007Merry Christmas to me.
Pat tipped me off to this wonderful piece of Punk Rock amazingness. I have been a Face to Face fan since I was introduced in 2000-ish, which was entirely too late to catch much of them live. This DVD make me feel that I’m making up for lost time. […]
Accessibility of Worship Lyrics
Friday, January 5th, 2007Relevintage asks about the wisdom in using worship lyrics containing phrases that would require a large amount of explanation to someone who is not familiar with the biblical concepts they are speaking of. Ie, “God of Jacob..”
Is it beneficial to sing songs with phrases that need that much explanation? Don’t we want […]

Pachelbel Rant
Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007I know I’m like a month late on this, but still worth it.
update: hat tip Pat Blair
What A Friend We Have In Jesus
Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007We are back from the Faithwalkers Conference. There is still much process that needs to be done on the vast amounts of information that was poured from the stage, and hopefully I’ll be able to comment on some of it there. One thing I’ll mention that hit me though, was a side remark […]

U2: Window in the Sky
Monday, December 18th, 2006My faith in U2 is almost restored. This is one of the two new songs off of their new best-of disc: U218 (singles). It’s the only original of the two, as the other is a cover of a Skids song “The Saints Are Coming”.
Thanks for pointing this out the real Pat Blair. […]
New Derek Webb: One Zero
Tuesday, December 12th, 2006Derek Webb will be releasing two new albums on January 30, 2007. Titled “One Zero”, it sounds like there will be two versions: an acoustic “best of”, from his last couple albums, and an “online only” remix disc of those same songs.
One Zero Track listing:
Mockingbird Better than Wine A King and a Kingdom Ballad in Plain Red I […]

Sufjan Stevens Songs For Christmas
Wednesday, November 29th, 2006Don’t take this as bandwagon jumping, or me going all indie snob, but Sufjan Stevens Songs for Christmas is amazing. I ordered a copy from Amazon and it should be here next week. I’m stoked. In the mean time, I will be streaming it non-stop from Asthmatic Kitty Records’ Web site.
Several highlights […]
Is John Mayer’s Gravity A Song About Integrity?
Friday, November 24th, 2006I always gets me excited when a popstar sings/writes/performs something that preaches truth, regardless of what they meant by it. That’s what I love about art: you can misconstrue it all you want and no one can tell you you’re wrong ;-)
Gravity is quickly becoming my favorite John Mayer song (perhaps it’s a “flavor […]
Skin and Bones and Bikes
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006Today I discovered that there is a bike path that starts basically right in front of my house and goes (more or less) straight to Best Buy. This was a dangerous disocovery. Today it was 80 degrees out so I took my bike down this path and purchased the new Foo Fighters live […]
Music For The Christmas Season
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006As a worship leader (lead worshiper, music leader, whatever) for our church, the coming advent season is always an enigma to me. The following is an article I wrote over at RockWorship.com, reposted here for your benefit.
What in the world is a modern-rock / alternative service style church supposed to do around the Christmas […]
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Sunday, November 5th, 2006Why have I not heard this song until recently? Amazing stuff. Perhaps I’m overreacting. It’s just hitting me right now. I love the emotive/depressing/soaring-ness of it. It’s going on my playlist right next to Motorcycle Drive By.
Also, we are playing it at The Rock this Friday at Paul’s request. […]
Porn, Sex Slavery - The Constance Video
Thursday, September 7th, 2006“Constance” By Mr J of The Procussions.
This is probably the best hip-hop/rap song I’ve ever heard. Ever. Telling a very hard store about a shocking reality in our country: The pervasiveness of child pornography, and the sex slave trade that fuels it. Men, if you struggle with porn (which most of you […]
