Just thought you should know. I used to contend that gospel and evangelion (euaggelion is a more accurate [...]

Thoughtfulness

Wednesday, January 26th, 2005

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters, and they came and drew water and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock. The shepherds came and drove them away, but Moses stood up and saved them, and watered their flock. When they came home to their father Reuel, he said, “How is it that [...]

Confession

Saturday, January 22nd, 2005

Lord,

I have forgotten the words you have spoken to me. I doubt you and follow a path that seems right to me, but when viewed from your perspective, leads straight to death.

In my weakness, I fall into worshiping things of man at the alter of selfishness and materialism. I do things and go places that take my [...]

Leadership

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

“Christian leaders cannot simply be persons who have well-informed opinions about the burning issues of our time. Their leadership must be rooted in the permanent, intimate relationship with the incarnate Word, Jesus, and they need to find there the source for their words, advice, and guidance….Dealing with burning issues easily leads to divisiveness because, [...]

While Matt and the majority of my Ames people were gone at Faithwalkers, I got to spend some extended quiet time with God. I shared some of my thoughts with Matt tonight and he told me that I should blog…so here goes…

During the last few weeks of the year, the One Year Bible [...]

Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz, “Ask a sign of the Lord your God; let it be deep as Sheol or high as heaven.” But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for [...]

Now muster your troops, O daughter of troops; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike the judge of Israel on the cheek. But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be [...]

True Discipleship: Where is Your Treasure?

Monday, November 29th, 2004

It seems clear from the Word of God that believers should be satisfied with food, clothing and housing; that they should be industrious in providing these current needs for their families; and that everything in excess should go into the work of God. They should not try to provide for their own future security, [...]

Proverbs 25:26

Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain, is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.

Self Help Church

Monday, September 27th, 2004

Noel posted an interesting Quote by Stanley Hauerwas on the Church

What we call “church” is too often a gathering of strangers who see the church as yet another “helping institution” to gratify further their individual desires. One of the reasons some church members are so mean-spirited with their pastor, particularly when the pastor urges them [...]

Daniel 3:14-27 NLT (emphasis mine)

Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? I will give you one more chance. If you bow down and worship the statue I have made when you hear the [...]

Not much comfort

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

So the other day I was really stressed out and mentally aimless, and all those other good things that go along with not connecting with God for a few days. I decided to crack open the one year to quell my useless wanderings through the thousands of pages of God’s scripture.

I think the spirit [...]

Dear the Church.

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

(Well, this was going to start out as a post about why I love designing things, but turned into a rant… perhaps I shall post a follow-up)

This Summer I have was given responsibility of promotions for The Rock. This meant that I was in charge of overseeing the creation of all of our literature [...]

Psalm 18:25-30

Friday, July 23rd, 2004

With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the blameless man you show yourself blameless; with the purified you show yourself pure; and with the crooked you make yourself seem tortuous. For you save a humble people, but the haughty eyes you bring down. For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens [...]

How far is too far?

Wednesday, July 21st, 2004

Relevant Magazine had a very well done editorial on the quesiton “How far is too far?” It is a question that many Christian couples struggle with in their relationship, and in my opinion, they shouldn’t have to struggle with it.

Even if you are clear (or semi-clear) about this topic in your mind, this article [...]

Principles of War

Wednesday, July 7th, 2004

If I had a way of forcing you to read this, I would. It is a book (more like a really long essay) that Tom Short did a seminar on at the GCC Pastor’s/Leader’s conference.

Check it out:

The Principles of War - A strategy for group and personal evangelism

The whole book (essay) is online [...]
