Reactionary

In reaction to the whole forced removal of the Ten Commandments Monument from the Alabama Supreme Court debacle, FOXNews.com some Tennessee counties are asking the state to proclaim “God as the foundation of our national heritage.

The ALCU says its “unfortunate that a local government is trying to promote religion”.

Now tell me… what is unfortunate about that? It is unfortunate that people are taking a stand for what they believe in? Unfortunate that people want to recognize the truth? Who is it unfortunate for?

I really hope they pass this. What a great message to send the nation. “Hey! We still believe. We aren’t cowards who are going to bend to the will of the vocal minority!”

This also brings to mind our discussion in Life group last night about how the word tolerance has been completely minconstrued as of late… but that’s another thought for another time.

It’s unfortunate because such a change would force it upon others, with no choice. We have the freedom of religion in this country, which is also the freedom from religion, if you so choose. Making a government mandate removes the choice from the equation, and it implies that the government supports a particular religious stance, which governments cannot do if they wish continute to be “fair and balanced”, impartial, et al.
