Dobson’s Absurdity

Dobson is not going to cast a vote if McCain gets the nomination.

Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can’t vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on their virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life.

Now I am simply astounded. Why would he not, instead, mount a write-in campaign for a more “suitable” candidate?

I wonder how the “If you don’t vote, don’t complain.” axiom will apply here.

It has been astonishing to me that we have a profoundly articulate spokesman for the Christian world view running in Mike Huckabee, and the Christian “leaders” have for the most part ignored him until it was too late.

I suspect that they have more interest in preserving their role in being a power broker than they do in actually making progress on their agenda. The simple fact of the matter is that Huckabee doesn’t need to seek their advice or their voice to reach the Christian constituency. Middlemen like Dobson will not be needed. That scares them.

    I’m not sure I want a Christian Spokesman…I want a good President…

This is the problem with the conservatives and their relationship with the christian right at the moment… John Stewart said it best… the Republicans lean upon them to put them over the top, but won’t let them in the driver’s seat (or something like that).

I’ve decided to MOSTLY vote based on the fiscal issues because no one has made a REAL move on abortion since Row V. Wade (yes you CAN outlaw abortion… the Supreme court decision includes a How To: if you’ve ever read it)… and in the broader sense I’ve decided I don’t need the government to legislate morality. I know what’s right and wrong… I can teach it to my future children, and preach it in my community… that is enough…

On the other hand, we HAD a balanced budget with no deficit spending just a few years ago and now we’re spending 400 billion dollars more in a year then we take in… when will the idiots learn that Deficit spending effectively raises taxes… just because it’s down the road a year or two doesn’t make it any less true… my number one issue this year is fixing the economy, or (knowing that takes longer than one term in office) at least taking steps in the right direction…
