Most of his political ideas I disagree with wholeheartedly, he is a staunch, moderate, democrat. The other random articles he sends me, I disagree with even more.
But I have to hand it to him, he is the most politically active, non-politician I know. He is on a first name basis with most of Iowa and Illinois’s federal legislators, and he reads, and researches (or claims to) most every significant political issue of the day. And he has an opinion on them. He writes letters to people about them. He is very passionate about it. I respect him for that, even if I do disagree with his position, at least he has one. This is far better than not caring.
I read all of the articles he sends me very carefully (something I’m pretty sure mom doesn’t do :o) ). It gives me a chance to explore the topics on my own so I will be informed the next time we have a discussion.
Yes, I tend to disagree with most of what he says, being, for the most part, a conservative Republicanish type. But I think that relationships are far, far, more important than politics. And by taking an active interest in what he writes, what he thinks, what HE is interested in, I show him that I care about him.
I think a lot of people are that way. They don’t care if you agree with them or not, if only you are willing to lend an open, honest, ear to them.

Oh, and I left a part out…
I love getting the articles. I wouldn’t change that for the world.
My grandpa scoffs at the Republicans.
