Seven Words you aren’t supposed to say on a Christian blog.
I said Dang it. Is that a bad thing?
dang: interj. Used to express dissatisfaction or annoyance. adv. & adj. Damn. tr.v. danged, dangĀ·ing, dangs To damn. n. The least valuable bit; a jot: I don’t give a dang.
So either I was expressing dissatisfaction (which I was), or was damning my Web log. I would say that I was simply expressing dissatisfaction, except that I said dang IT, which would imply that I was speaking to something (my blog).
So essentially I said Damn. Is that bad?
On that note, what about “sucks”, and “screwed” (as in “you’re screwed”), “piss”, “hell” (when not describing the place), and “ass”.
With the exception of “damn” these are all words that I would be uncomfortable using around small children and adults I want respect from, but for some reason am relatively comfortable (though I do get that “should I have just said that?” feeling after I utter one) using around peers.
What’s the deal with that?

I like mixing up the word Ass so it is technically not a swear……you know, grASS, pASSport, cutlASS….the interesting thing about passports….if you take the “p” off the trunk sticker then your trunk says “assport” on it….which makes since……Tim Hibbings has a passport in case any of you want to try it…..
yeah, I think swearing around peers just gets your point across easier…it is much more descriptive….and I still don’t consider “dang, crap, sucks, or heck swear words”….why not? I dunno…..
My annoying thing is when people are afraid to say the word when stating the phrase. Like; “do you think the P-word is dirty?” if you’re not using it in a derogatory since then what’s wrong with saying “do you think piss is a bad word?”…but that’s just me. Not that I do it very much. there is that thing Paul wrote about not making other Christians stumble….but i think you all get my point….
Ha… and thus Matt proves once again that he is a smart man… i.e. not all things imoral should be ileagle… i.e. I should’t go to jail for calling Mr. X “a little shit”
F.Y.I. the only words I feel uncomfortable using in most conversation are Fu–, Sh–, A–, and Cr–… most of the other words you mentioned I would use in front of children…
I would restrain other words only in front of bosses, priests (maybe), and your wife ;-)…
GAH! Sorry about the first paragraph in the comment above… tabbed browsing has it’s drawback when you’re reading 4 blogs at once and get them confused in eachother comments… The rest was meant for you…
ouu.. I forgot about crap. I guess that doesn’t even register on my meter. Maybe it should…
In my opinion, expletives still look unprofessional in formal writing. Therefore, your use of them on your blog would depend on how seriously you want your blog taken.
On a side note, anything that detriorates the professionalism of a blog may be a good thing. I always fear high school students using blogs as qualified sources for reports and speeches.
Interseting… because there are some blogs out there that may BE qualified sources for reports and speeches!!! Especially in the tech and political sectors.
It would depend on the subject of the report, how the information was used, BUT ESPECIALLY on the qualifications of the author of the blog.
