Jesus the Nice Guy, and Other American Myths
Last night at The Rock I spoke about Jesus. A huge topic, true. I mostly just focussed on the “Blessed are the meek” aspect, and tried to define what he’s saying when he means “meek”. Give it a listen.

Dan Shea did an amazing illustration for a poster for the message that never got finished. It is really good and I thought the world should see it. Dan’s inspiration for the illustration is Jesus as a super hero.
“And so the way I figure, Jesus was the greatest super hero ever. Let’s take a look at his powers: Super Healing…of others, Super Resurection (himself included), Super walking on water, Super food multiplying, ummm, Super catch a lot of fish with one dredging?, I would like to think he was super strong as well as my illustration would indicate, and he also had Super temptation rejection, in the face of Satan nonetheless he remained blameless.”
Also, if you want to download or order a copy of the “Revelation Jesus” that I had on screen last night, you can over at Revelation Illustrated. Their site could use a lot of help, but they have some amazing illustrations..
updated because planetrock missed it

Great message Matt.
The thing that strikes me the most is that Jesus was in charge. The whole thing about him meekly not opening his mouth wasn’t because he was shy or something. It was because he only opened his mouth when it served his purposes. Namely, to die on my behalf.
That is he “who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising its shame.” It’s like he’ saying, “Is that all you got? Is that the best you can do, Satan? I could do this all day standing on my head” for the joy of being with me.
He is strong indeed.
I love Dan’s illustration.
