The Violet Burning Tear It Up In Ames
Last night I had the distinct privilege of watching The Violet Burning play at a very small venue in Ames.

This is not only a lyric from Drop-Dead, the latest record from The Violet Burning, it is a theme that has connected with thousands of loyal fans who call this groundbreaking artist one of the great and influential rock groups of this era. With ten years of touring the United States and Europe , the Long Beach , CA. based band have established themselves as a great band that can deliver a moving experience live, as well as in the studio. Drop-Dead continues this path; a connection with the listener by putting ones heart on display.

It was, indeed, a fantastic show. Very strong musically, so experienced that they could enjoy the music personally while performing. The whole band worked so well together. It all just felt so right.
“Moving” is a good word to describe the show. I wish more people could have been there. Maybe next time (at Zeke’s).
The Violet Burning was, in fact, burning. Great use of synth tracks to create an ambient feel with only bass, drums, guitar and voice. I know Pat was thinking, imagine this band on the Zeke stage with a first rate sound system, it will be quite an experience, for those who get off their duffs and come out to support that venue.
Kathy and I enjoyed just as much, talking with friends about all things Jesus while a metal band wailed in the background. Later we thought, maybe our life group should meet in a bar. Sounds kind of missional, doesn’t it Matt.
I did want to go to this concert, but 6 kids have a way of slowing a guy down. BUT, as (currently) the only other member of Scott’s lifegroup, I would love meeting in a bar or coffee house for missional purposes. I can just imagine people eavesdropping on our conversation and asking questions.
I don’t know about the eavesdropping thing… I have a tendency to think people would be more put off by your talking loudly enough that they could hear you (something that always concerns me when we’re in a public place talking strategy, or about people’s lives… we’re in a war here and enemy spies are everywhere.)
I’d much prefer going there with the purpose of establishing yourself as a regular, getting to know the people who frequent the place, establishing a relationship with them, thus eventually taking the place over :)
