Etymology of “Gospel”

gospel a word of Anglo-Saxon origin, and meaning “God’s spell”, i.e., word of God, or rather, according to others, “good spell”, i.e., good news. It is the rendering of the Greek evangelion, i.e., “good message.” -Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary

Just thought you should know. I used to contend that gospel and evangelion (euaggelion is a more accurate transliteration, but evangelion is a more accurate pronounciation) were two different words. In fact, I was wrong.

Either way: God’s story, or good story, it is definitely good news. And a rather compelling epic story. And please don’t limit the gospel to Romans 10:9-10, or John 3:16 (though John 3:16 is the best summary of the whole bible in… the… bible…). You would be missing out on a huge romance epic.
