How far is too far?

couple.jpgRelevant Magazine had a very well done editorial on the quesiton “How far is too far?” It is a question that many Christian couples struggle with in their relationship, and in my opinion, they shouldn’t have to struggle with it.

Even if you are clear (or semi-clear) about this topic in your mind, this article is worth a read, and serious thought.

What about, ³How much of myself would I like to keep pure and untouched for the person I intend to marry one day?² or ³How much would I love to keep special for my marriage partner so that on our wedding night they will receive what nobody else has even come close to receiving from me?² How about, ³Do I value the person I will one day commit the rest of my life to so much that it is worth sacrificing some personal, short-term fun and satisfaction now in order to have something unique to give them later?² Starting to see the picture? What is the main difference between these two statements? ³How far is too far?² is all about me What do I get? How much do I get out of this deal? How do I get sexual satisfaction? ³What can I keep special?² is all about the person I am saving myself for and treating them with absolute love and putting-them-firstness.

The only problem I see with this article is that it doesn’t mention Ephesians 5:3: But among you there must not even be a HINT of sexual immorality!

From one of the comments after the article:

“A professor in Bible college put it in a way that stuck with me - treat the person you date as if they were someone else’s husband or wife, because until the rings are exchanged, that’s exactly who they are.”
