worship…
I find the phrase “worship service” to be an interesting one.
It is used to refer to a gathering of the church on a sunday morning. Often times we say we have “two services”. In what sense is it a service? This has started to perplex me recently, because I worry that most people are decieved into the train of thought that they are coming to church on a sunday morning to be served… to have something given to them. And that is vastly not the case.
In his book “The Air I Breathe” Louie Giglio talks about the idea of “come worshipping to church”. That is, coming off of six days of worship to our weekly gathering to worship together. As opposed to coming to church for our weekly “tank up”.
This idea excites me immensely, and it makes a weekly church meeting make a heck of a lot more sense to me.
On that note, “The Air I Breathe” is an incredible book, that I think anyone who is struggling with the concept of worship needs to read. It is a quick and easy read, but it is packed with great thoughts.

I’ve been in a bunch of good discussions about this lately. A friend of mine in Washington DC emailed me his manuscript of his book about worship he was reading and it was very challenging.
Keep thinking.
