PlaneShift

This new freeware game for the Mac could spell disaster for my usage of time. I may need several of you out there to keep me accountable to not download this.

I resisted the siren call of Everquest and (worse still) Neverwinter Nights or even World of Warcraft mostly because of cost, and realizing that it would consume my life.

But this game is free.

I remember several years ago talking to some of my friends about how amazingly awesome this type of game would be, shortly after, Everquest came out. Fortunately I realized the impact it would have on me if i started playing (I probably wouldn’t be married, would have a job only so that I could make enough money to continue my habit) and I CERTAINLY wouldn’t be doing anything for the Kingdom.

I’m not sure if people realize how powerful the lure of creating a completely online persona in a massive world, and acquiring wealth and power there is to me.

It’s a good thing that the Spirit is more powerful than all that :)

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. Ancient Scripture from John, the Beloved Disciple

But think of all the online personas that you could share the gospel with!

    dude,

flee from world of warcraft. best game i’ve EVER played. by far. and i’ve played some. i bought it, played it for about two weeks and sold it out of fear. all in the first weeks of christmas break. it’s more addictive than i ever believed a video game could be.

if i wasn’t a believer, i could seriously see myself getting a job with just enough pay to afford the monthly fee. and averaging like 7 hours a day playing. easy.

    RUN AWAY.

World of Warcraft is a great game that will eat your time(spare or not) however with a properly named character you can start some interesting conversations. :) I stress tested and was in the open beta for this game stress test char name JESUSisLORD :)

Trying to justify spending ridiculous amounts of time on a video game as “multiplying your time” into evangelism is like trying to justify playing Xbox Live as fellowship… it doesn’t work.

Noel - that will definitely keep me away, thanks. I think it is a sign from God.

Um… keeping you accountable for not downloading it means I shouldn’t offer you a CD with the downloaded file burned on it, right? Or a firewire disk transfer? It’s not technically “downloading”…
