No! I got into this weird loop with paypal today because I forgot my password and submitted the recovery process and then remembered it but it wouldn't take it beause I thought I forgot it. My husband has the universal password and username philosophy. It may sound risky, but it works because he never forgets.

Why do you ask? Are you getting ready to design some nifty software and make our lives easier?

no, thought that would be a good project...

I ask because I signed up for something today and realized the insane amounts of online accounts I have under a ploethera of usernames/passwords/e-mail addresses.

If I wanted to go thru and remove all trace of myself from the internet, I couldn't do it.

I can remember most of them. Syonyk with [insert one of 3 or 4 'web' passwords]. There are a few exceptions, but they're for websites with goofy requirements, and are used regularly.

However, I'm not sure I could completely remove myself from the 'net. I've been around too long... Google for Syonyk, you'll see what I mean.

I have an application on my PDA which stores all my passwords and other private information, and encrypts it. I have a fairly complete list of all accounts I have. Encryption is something of interest to me; I understand a lot of the techniques and pitfalls, but it's been a long time since I've studied the math behind them.

As far as remembering every single one, no way. I am totally about the universal junkstuff username/password, but every once in awhile you run into one that requires something weird so you have to make exceptions. I have kept lists but every once in awhile one will get lost. I could probably remove about 75% of all accounts currently active. Not that it would matter. Probably only about 10% are under an identity even close to mine....
